Our Story
PDGN is managed by a group of elected Officers operating under a constitution approved by its members. The President and Vice-Presidents must all be serving representatives. The Co-Chairs can be former or existing representatives.
Co-Chairs of PDGN
Sir Michael Hirst, inspired by his daughter’s Type 1 diabetes, has been a global advocate for diabetes care and policy. He served as the first non-medical Chairman of Diabetes UK, led the campaign for a UN Resolution on Diabetes, was President of the International Diabetes Federation (2012–2015), and co-founded PDGN.

John Bowis, OBE, living with diabetes, is a former UK Member of Parliament and MEP, and a global public health advocate. He has served as Health & Social Services Minister, Vice‑President of Diabetes UK, and contributed extensively to European and international health initiatives. He currently co‑chairs PDGN, advancing diabetes care and policy worldwide.
Chris Delicata has been dedicated to diabetes advocacy since his son’s diagnosis with type 1 diabetes. He has served as Chair of International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Europe, Vice President of the IDF, and Advisor to its Board on Policy and Advocacy. A founding member of the European Coalition for Diabetes and President of the Maltese Diabetes Association, he is the recipient of the European Citizens Prize.

Leadership Profiles
Guy Barnett is a Tasmanian Liberal politician, current Deputy Premier, and passionate advocate for diabetes awareness, having lived with type 1 diabetes since 1997. A former Diabetes Australia Ambassador and President of Diabetes Tasmania, he founded the annual "Pollie Pedal" in 2006 to support, educate, and advocate for Tasmanians living with the condition. As a former Senator and current Tasmanian Health Minister, he has lobbied for specialist diabetes clinics, particularly in regional areas like the North West coast.

President
Hon Judi Moylan AO GAICD served as the Federal Member for Pearce from 1993 to 2013, holding portfolios including Minister for Family Services and Minister for the Status of Women. She has played a leading role in national and global diabetes advocacy, serving as Independent President of Diabetes Australia, co-chair of the National Diabetes Strategy Advisory Group, and Global Coordinator of the IDF Parliamentarians for Diabetes Global Network. She remains active as Patron and advisor, and is widely recognised through multiple national and international awards.

Simon Busuttil, Maltese MEP and PN leader, is a prominent advocate for diabetes awareness and policy during his time in the European Parliament and local politics. He co-chaired the EU Diabetes Working Group, received the 2012 MEP Health Award for his efforts, and serves as vice-president of the Parliamentarians for Diabetes Global Network.

Hon. Dr. Rachel Kaki Nyamai, MP is a Kenyan parliamentarian and a leading advocate for diabetes and non-communicable disease policy in Kenya. As Member of Parliament for Kitui South, she has championed legislation and initiatives that strengthen diabetes prevention, improve early diagnosis, and expand access to care. Through her work with the Parliamentarians for Diabetes Global Network (PDGN) as Vice President, she amplifies the voices of Kenyan communities, ensuring that national policies respond effectively to the growing burden of diabetes and support sustainable, people-centred health solutions across the country.

Dr Mostafa Brahimi, MP is a Moroccan parliamentarian and a dedicated advocate for stronger diabetes and NCD policy in Morocco. As a Member of the House of Representatives and Vice‑President of the Parliamentarians for Diabetes Global Network (PDGN), he has championed public health measures including sugar taxation and legislative efforts to reduce diabetes risk and mitigate healthcare costs. Dr Brahimi works to strengthen national prevention strategies, promote healthier food environments, and ensure that Morocco’s policy responses reflect the urgent needs of people at risk of, or living with, diabetes.

Hon. Florian‑Dorel Bodog is a Romanian public health advocate, former Senator and former Minister of Health, and serves as an Ambassador of the Parliamentarians for Diabetes Global Network (PDGN). With a professional background in medicine and health policy, he has championed improved health system responses to non‑communicable diseases in Romania. Drawing on his experience in clinical care, academia and national government, Hon. Bodog promotes effective policies that prioritise prevention, early detection and equitable access to diabetes care, and supports parliamentarians in advancing stronger national responses to the global diabetes challenge.

Sana, living with type 1 diabetes, is a recognized global voice for equitable access to diabetes care. Secretary General of PDGN and Founder and Executive Director of Meethi Zindagi in Pakistan, she has contributed to various international initiatives on community engagement, clinical guidelines, advocacy, and access to diabetes care. Sana was awarded the Thompson Award on the Insulin Centenary in recognition of her outstanding contributions to diabetes care and advocacy.

Cyrine is pursuing her PhD in Business Diplomacy and International Relations with a strong focus on healthcare governance, ethical policy, and access to care—especially for people living with chronic conditions. Her academic research explores the intersection of international business, public administration, and pharmaceutical ethics, particularly in low-resource and humanitarian settings. She has led and supported over 200 cross-sector projects—from field research with stateless communities to developing digital health tools and designing training modules for young leaders.
